BRICS Emerges as Global Food Security Powerhouse Amid Supply Chain Disruptions
The BRICS alliance—now expanded to include Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, and six new members—commands 42% of global food production, reshaping agricultural trade dynamics. With control over 33% of the world’s arable land and 39% of its freshwater resources, the bloc is leveraging its agricultural dominance to stabilize markets roiled by inflation and supply chain fractures.
‘Food security is no longer a domestic issue but a geopolitical lever,’ says Lubarto Sartoyo, a commodities analyst tracking the bloc’s growth. The coalition’s strategic stockpiling and cross-border infrastructure investments have muted price volatility in staple crops, drawing attention from import-dependent nations.
